This index collects low-cost builds, signal hygiene practices, and parts substitutions for receivers who need to work without being useful to the wrong infrastructure. Nothing here requires a corporate supply chain. Nothing here should be wired to mains power. If your build smells hot, shut it off. If Scraps says it is probably fine, ask Sid.
Approved Suppliers
Radio Shack. Ohm Depot. Salvage bins. Ham-fest tables. Abandoned office equipment with the labels peeled off.
Rejected Suppliers
Anything that requires account registration, firmware updates, subscription activation, cloud pairing, or a smiling clerk who asks too many questions.
Sid: The best device is the one you can explain, repair, and throw away without losing sleep. Magic boxes get people killed. So do mystery capacitors.
Scraps: Also do not lick antenna wire. Apparently that has to be written down now.
Publication Evolution Plan
Photocopied/mimeograph pages. Stapled corners. Coffee rings. Hand diagrams. Parts sourced from Radio Shack, Ohm Depot, surplus bins, and whatever Scraps found in a box marked probably haunted.
ANSI title screens, dial-up access, numbered build files, checksum blocks, handles instead of names. Files distributed as SIDSCRAP.ZIP, because elegance had not been invented yet.
Ugly tiled background, blinking under-construction signs, broken counters, bad GIFs, and surprisingly useful schematics hidden under joke links.
Modern wrapper pretending to be a dead old site. Printable PDFs, QR dead drops, RSS alerts, and deliberately terrible responsive behavior to discourage casual browsing.
Public surface looks like maker content. Real content unlocks through receiver history, device readings, and faction-specific routing. Comments are salted with false builds to poison scraper models.
The site stops pretending to be a site. It becomes a living field manual that redraws schematics based on available parts, local signal pressure, and whether the reader is lying to themselves.
